4 Days in the Blue Mountains: Katoomba & Leura Itinerary
This bases you in Katoomba or Leura for the whole trip — one accommodation change from Sydney, one back. Both towns sit within walking distance of each other and of Echo Point.

- Year-round. Autumn and spring are the most reliable for clear views; winter mornings are genuinely cold and often fogged in, which can be spectacular or can hide everything depending on the day.

- The train from Sydney Central to Katoomba is genuinely practical — about 2 hours — and Katoomba and Leura are walkable once there. A car adds flexibility for Blackheath and the further-out lookouts but isn't essential if you're comfortable with local buses for the rest.

The Blue Mountains work well for international visitors precisely because the headline sights — Echo Point, Scenic World — don't require serious fitness, while the Grand Canyon Track and Wentworth Falls walks are there for anyone who wants more.
Large sections of the Blue Mountains burned in the 2019–20 bushfires, and some tracks have had closures or rerouting since. Most of the well-known walks have reopened, but check current track status with NSW National Parks before you go rather than assuming an old guide is accurate.

Cost and booking notes
- Scenic World's cable car, railway and skyway are paid attractions and the easiest way to see the valley without a strenuous walk — a good option if fog or fitness rules out the longer tracks.
- Parking at Echo Point and other popular spots fills by mid-morning on weekends — arrive early or use the local bus network.
- A day-tripper's version of this exists too: it's entirely possible to do Echo Point and one short walk from Sydney in a single very long day, but four days lets you actually walk rather than just look.
