    The peninsula rewards a two-base approach: start on the eastern side near Ardrossan or Minlaton, then move to Marion Bay or Stenhouse Bay for Dhilba Guuranda–Innes National Park and the wilder western coast, rather than day-tripping the whole peninsula from one spot.

    This coast is genuinely windy most of the year, and the western side in particular is exposed to the Southern Ocean swell — check conditions before any beach or rock activity, and hold plans loosely enough to swap a windy day for an indoor or sheltered one.

    Cost and booking notes

    • Dhilba Guuranda–Innes National Park requires a National Parks SA entry pass, either a day pass or a holiday pass if you're visiting more than one SA national park on the trip.
    • Accommodation on the peninsula is limited relative to demand over SA school holidays and long weekends — book ahead rather than assuming availability.
    • Fuel and services are genuinely more limited on the western coast than the eastern side — fill up at Marion Bay or Warooka rather than assuming the next town will have what you need.

    No — the whole peninsula, including Dhilba Guuranda–Innes National Park, is accessible by a standard 2WD. The park's main road is sealed, and the minor roads off it to individual beaches and lookouts are formed dirt roads in good condition, not a 4WD requirement — check current park guidance before you go regardless.

    Conditions vary a lot by coast and by day — the eastern (Gulf St Vincent) side is generally calmer, while the western coast is exposed to Southern Ocean swell and better suited to experienced surfers than casual swimming. Check conditions before swimming anywhere on this peninsula.
