5 Days: Gold Coast & Hinterland Itinerary
This is a Gold Coast-only trip, not a Brisbane-plus-Gold-Coast plan — Gold Coast Airport (Coolangatta) puts you about 25 minutes from Surfers Paradise without needing Brisbane at all. Base yourself in Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach for the whole five days.

- Year-round. September–November and April–May are the most comfortable; December–February is hot, humid and stormy in the afternoons, and also the busiest with school holidays. The hinterland's rainforest can be genuinely wet and cool year-round — pack for it regardless of the coastal forecast.

- Not needed for the beach days — Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach and the G:link light rail cover the coastal strip well. A hire car is the practical way to reach Springbrook and the hinterland, since there's no public transport connecting the coast to the mountain villages.

Our 7 Days in South East Queensland itinerary covers the Gold Coast's theme parks well but doesn't reach the hinterland at all — this plan adds Springbrook National Park's rainforest and waterfalls as the contrast to the beach days, on the theory that a coastal trip benefits from at least one day that isn't a beach.
This is a different hinterland to the Sunshine Coast's — Springbrook and the Gold Coast hinterland sit inland from Surfers Paradise, roughly an hour's drive; Maleny and Montville, covered in our Sunshine Coast Hinterland road trip, are a separate region north of Brisbane.

Cost and booking notes
- Gold Coast theme park tickets are expensive individually — multi-park passes covering two or more parks over a set number of days are usually cheaper if a park is part of the plan.
- Gold Coast accommodation peaks hard over Queensland and NSW school holidays and Schoolies week (November) — book well ahead or avoid those windows.
- Springbrook National Park has no general entry fee, but some walks and lookouts have limited parking that fills on weekends — arrive early.
